If you find yourself in Banff National Park, and are looking for a half day to full day hike, this was my favorite!

Cirque Peak via Helen Lake Trail:
🗓️Best time to go
Late June through September
📑Permits
You’ll need a National Park Pass, either annual or daily.
🥾Mileage
Helen Lake is 7 miles round trip, to continue to the peak, add 3 miles for a total of 10
⛰️Difficulty
Moderate/Hard. The final section is steeper, and includes a lot of loose dirt and a couple minor exposed sections at the top for those who aren’t a fan of heights. For those who like scrambling, there are a few points you can scramble for a couple minutes. I’d say you can keep it at class 3 depending on your route, but a guy who followed me though it was more easy class 5 🤷🏼‍♀️
🧭Gear
Besides the 10 essentials and usual hiking gear, I’d recommend trekking poles if going up to summit. The dirt is loose higher up and full of scree that is much easier to navigate with poles.

If you’re in Argentina for the summer, you should consider exploring the Patagonia region. I went to explore the Huemel Circuit for a couple days while visiting and it was one of the most awe-inspiring places I’ve traveled. The trek itself features ice fields, river crossings, glaciers, tyrolean traverses, multiple passes, mountain lakes, and some of the most incredible views over four days. For those interested, here is the mini guide. Be sure to follow for the full guide coming out on my blog this week.

Huemel Circuit Mini Guide:
🗓️Best time to go
December through March. Earlier December May still see a good amount of rain. It rained every day when I was in El Chalten in December. Early January only saw an afternoon light rain.
📑Permits
You need to register with the El Chalten visitor center for a free permit before leaving. They also check your gear.
🥾Mileage
43ish miles depending where you finish. Most people take 4 days and 3 nights to backpack this.
⛺️Camps
Camping is free, but you must camp in designated camp areas along the trail.
⛰️Difficulty
Hard. You’ll need a harness, carabiners, and cordalette (and knowledge how to use it al), good fitness levels, and navigation skills.
🧭Itinerary
Day one: El Chalten to Laguna Toro
Day two: Laguna Toro to Paso del Viento
Day three: Paso del Viento to Lago Viedma
Day four: Lago Viedma to El Chalten

A very quick recap of how I spent the last couple months with the world’s best guide @moritalev 💛 i spent a total of three weeks backpacking on various trails, drove and flew many hours, ventured over to Chile and Uruguay, swam in the ocean, learned to wake surf (I’m not good), rode (and fell) off a horse, ran through a wildfire, saw four shows, visited two wineries, saw many football matches, saw Argentina win the World Cup, practiced (definitely not perfected) my Spanish, went to multiple art museums, drank great wine and ate great food, and met so, so many amazing people.

I went here to meet and visit Mo’s family, most for the first time, and it blew me away how welcoming and kind everyone was (knowing Mo I shouldn’t have expected anything less ❤️). Until next time Argentina 🇦🇷
